When I began planning my Ergodox build, I had my eyes on a build by witbliz using aluminum plates from AKmalamute’s group buy.

A week ago a full-hand set from that buy popped up on r/mechmarket, so I had to have it.

I’ve now assembled a mockup - plates, switches, and keycaps (Granite) of Ergodox with this.

Conclusions:

  • Metal is definitely the wrong material for this build, the metal plates ping like crazy while typing. Carbon fiber is looking the better material.

  • The separated plate design looks amazing. I’d like to do away with the 5th plate, but this looks killer.

  • Full-hand is the way to go. I was a fool for thinking regular case was it.
